Playing Career Path in the Premier League

Premier League careers run on the transfer window, not free agency and the draft -- clubs buy and sell players outright, sometimes mid-career for large fees, and loan spells (a player moving to another club temporarily while still under contract elsewhere) add stops that wouldn't exist in an American sports path. A long path with several clubs is completely normal even for a very good player; the modern game moves talent between clubs constantly, and club loyalty across a whole career is the exception, not the rule.
